The life path number is calculated from your FULL date of birth and is considered one of the most important and influential numbers in your entire numerology chart.
The numbers used in Numerology to indicate a person’s Life Path Number range from 1 to 9.
In many cases, your single-digit Life Path Number will be written to include the two-digit number from which it was derived, such as 16/7, for example.
How to Calculate Your Life Path Number
Your life path number is calculated using just a simple mathematical addition, with 2 additional rules:
- Group your birthday numbers together before adding and
- Do not reduce the main numbers from 11 or 22 to single digits until the final calculation.
Seems simple? That is!
The easiest way to start working with numerology is to analyze your unique date of birth. Numerology is about how to get to the root number. To do this, you simply reduce the digits to a single digit number, excluding 11 and 22, which are considered master numbers (more on that later). This single digit is your individual Life Path Number.
The life path number is similar to your astrological sun sign: it reveals your greatest purpose, including strengths, weaknesses, talents and ambitions. Your life path number also sets the tone for your experiences and why events occur in the past, the present and the future. Simply put, it is the method for madness.
Let’s say Adarsh birthday is December 15, 1992. To calculate the Life Path Number, you will reduce each component of this date to a single digit:
The month, 12, is reduced to 1 + 2 = 3.
The date, 14, is reduced to 1 + 5 = 6.
1992 is reduced to 1 + 9 + 9 + 2. This is equal to 21. So, 21 is reduced to 2 + 1 = 3.
Then we add the reduced numbers of month, date and year (3 + 6 + 3) and we reach 12. Finally, we add 1 + 2 and we reach 3. If you were born on December 15, 1992, your Path of Life O number is 3. It may seem scary at first, but when you see everything written that way, it becomes a lot less intimidating, doesn’t it?

Master Numbers
As mentioned above, the only time you would not reduce the final number is if you reach 11 or 22. They are considered Master Numbers and connote a more intensified version of your root numbers (2 and 4, respectively). The master numbers suggest a high degree of learning, achievement or success, but probably in a more stressful or high-pressure environment.
For example, Sir Paul McCartney, perhaps the most famous Gemini in England, was born on June 18, 1942. When that date is reduced (month = 6, day = 9, year = 7), the sum is 22. Instead of simplifying to a single digit (resulting in 4), the number 22 reflects the Master Number – the high-octane iteration of 4, revealing McCartney’s strong “life mission”.
Converting letters to find your destination number
You can also use numerology to derive the root number of names or words – this is where our old friend Pythagoras lends a hand. According to their theories, certain letters have specific numerical values, which are as follows:
1 = A, J, S
2 = B, K, T
3 = C, L, U
4 = D, M, V
5 = E, N, W
6 = F, O, X
7 = G, P, Y
8 = H, Q, Z
9 = I, R
Using this technique, it is easy to find the root number associated with the names, which numerologists call their Destination Number. To find your destination number, calculate the root number of your full name (first, middle, last) by reducing each name to a single digit and adding up the total.
For example, my full name reveals my Destination Number: ALIZA (1 + 3 + 9 + 8 + 1 = 22, which becomes 2 + 2 = 4) KELLY (2 + 5 + 3 + 7 = 20, which becomes 2 + 0 = 2) FARAGHER (6 + 1 + 9 + 1 + 7 + 8 + 5 + 9 = 46, which becomes 4 + 6 = 10, then finally 1 + 0 = 1), resulting in a Number Target of 7 (because 4 + 2 + 1 = 7).
While your Path of Life reveals your greater purpose, your Destination Number provides insight into how you will express your greater goals. Therefore, as a person on the Way of Life 8, my mission is to cultivate abundance, and I will express this through my Destiny Number 7: analysis, research and critical observation. It looks correct.
Life Path Number of interpretation
So, now that you’ve calculated your life path number and destination number, it’s time to find out what those digits really mean. Let’s dig.
Life Path Number 1 (10/01, 1/19)
Like Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, it deals with action and initiation, in numerology 1 it is related to the forward movement. 1 symbolizes a pioneering spirit, independent nature and innate leadership skills.
